The Rite of Spring

In Paris on 29 May 1913 The Rite of Spring appeared and shook the ballet world. Nijinsky’s choreography changed the way the ballet was seen until that moment and paved the way for the modern ballet. Suddenly the human bodies weren’t elegant but  heavy and vulnerable battling against the forces of nature. At the same time Stravinsky’s music wasn’t gentle but more like if a tornado was raving around. Critics and the audience raged both against the music and the choreography.
