Constantine P. Cavafy

How strange to die the same day that you have born.

This is the case of the Greek poet Constantine Cavafy who was born in Alexandria in 29 of April 1863 and died the same day of April after 70years.

He wrote Ithaca and Waiting for the Barbarians but another one of his poems that I like a lot is this one:

I’ve looked on beauty so much

that my vision overflows with it.

The body’s lines. Red lips. Sensual limbs.

Hair as though stolen from Greek statues,

always lovely, even uncombed,

and falling slightly over pale foreheads.

Figures of love, as my poetry desired them

…in the nights when I was young,

encountered secretly in those nights.
